The Artist - Ly Lo
What little girl doesn’t love to decorate cakes and cookies? Growing up didn’t change that for Ly, she still continued to dream of making beautiful sweet things even after graduating from The Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in furniture design. It started as a hobby and became a passion to make the most creative and tasty cupcakes and cookies. After moving to St. Paul, with the encouragement of her husband, she opened up the Little Cake Studio on Marshall in August 2009.
The Pastry Chef - Krista Steinbach
Starting as a young girl in my grandma’s kitchen, baking was always something that I loved to do. As I moved through my high school years and on to college, I continued to provide treats to all that surrounded me. Even while deployed to Iraq with the Minnesota Army National Guard, I found a way to bake fresh bread filled with cinnamon and sugar, a delightful treat in the middle of the desert.
It was during that two-year deployment to Iraq that I realized that life is short and would pass me by if I allowed it to. Fortunately, my college sweetheart and husband of six years was very supportive and pushed me to pursue my dreams.
I attended culinary school at the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, California in Napa Valley shortly after graduating from the University of Minnesota. During my time at culinary school I was trained in classic pastry techniques and created beautiful pastries, cakes, and desserts that tasted even better than they looked. All the while, dreaming and planning of opening my own dessert shop.
After several months of recipe research, much to the pleasure of my close friends and family (the official taste testers), I have created some delicious cupcake recipes in classic and innovative flavors and delicate French macaroons that I hope you enjoy.
